A hospital courtyard garden
We were asked to design a relaxing courtyard garden for teenage and young adult patients at an East Yorkshire hospital to visit during their time spent on the ward.
The previous space had been rather dark and imposing, functioning mainly as an access path between wards. Our design created four separate seating areas which were partially screened from one another (for privacy with family or for solitude) within a renewed planting scheme designed to provide year-round colour and interest. Whilst waiting for the plants to reach mature height laser-cut screens act to provide vertical interest and screening between the different areas. An access path needed to be retained but was replaced with a serpentine path which meant views from either doorway including enticing glimpses of the garden, rather than simply a grey footpath.
